This project actually reflects the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. Such an initiative on the part of the Punjab government will help boost knowledge economy, encouraging investment in digital innovation and technology. 

Chaired by the Punjab province’s chief executive a few months ago, an important meeting decided that an Artificial Intelligence and Information Technology University will be established in IT City in collaboration with the Smart City project setting up. That would not only enhance global employability of youth, but it would attract 700 million Chinese investment also. “We want to make Punjab the biggest artificial intelligence centre with the cooperation of China. Punjab will soon become an IT hub in the region and we want our youth to excel in the IT sector,” she said on the occasion, adding: “We are committed to providing favorable environment for technological innovation and investment in Punjab.”

To be sure, at both the firm and the country level, greater investment in IT is associated with greater productivity growth. The government believes in leading initiatives pertaining to the IT growth.
